Eucharistic Meditations

Thirty

  1. In desert and forest and unending plain
In sunrise and cool skies or thundering rain:
Wherever I am and whene'er I am lost,
I find my refuge in the wine and the Host.
  2. In torment and danger where tyrants prevail,
In unbridled anger when ambitions fail:
Whatever the cause and whatever the loss
I find my refuge in the Fruits of the Cross.
  3. In kindness and softness in trying to relate,
In blindness and harshness, revulsion and hate:
However I feel when I try to do good,
My strength is to kneel for my heavenly food.
  4. In blaring and blasting, the media's coarse howl
Sends me to Your caring with ewer and towel:
The thought that we humans are partly divine
Is mirrored through God in the bread and the wine.
