Holy Week 2003

Tuesday

The husk of corn that died to bring forth wheat,
The humble life that emptied to be filled;
He looked into what our world calls defeat
And faced the pain of what The Father willed:
By which obedience He was crucified
According to the sour earth's despite
And in that same defeat was glorified,
Returned, Enfolded in the infinite.

Teach us through prayer to know The Father's will
And raise it high above earth's confidence;
And empty what a venal world would fill
To aid The Spirit's work of reverence:
And may we strengthen our resolve to die
In full obedience to Your Only Son
That we may live to see eternity
Not of ourselves but what His glory won.
