Holy Week 2003

Wednesday

He saw a king and thought he saw a crown,
He sensed the freedom he had never known;
But when He would not fight, he struck Him down;
He must not live who had refused a throne:
Some see a crown and think they see a king,
Thinking that freedom cannot be obtained
Unless opposing powers are overthrown;
That something lost must balance something gained.

Teach us to know the power of this King
Who rules all hearts obedient to His will,
Whose equal love, beyond all reckoning,
Can every noble wish amply fulfil:
And may we, sure that love perpetuates
Itself from that one love that He enshrines,
Travel in hope to reach the palace gates,
United in proclaiming that He reigns.
