Section 2: I - Genesis iii
- For Eden's tree Calvary's cross;
For what man knew Our Lord knew pain:
The tree of life, the tree of death
He gathered what the world had sown. - For honeyed apples bitter gall
For what man gorged Our Lord took none:
The food of life, the food of death
He offered what the world had strewn. - For comely Eve a virgin pure
For what man ravished Christ was born:
The seed of life, the seed of death
She cherished what the world would scorn. - For Satan's serpent Yahweh's lamb
For what man flattered He was torn:
The source of life, the death of death;
He conquered what the world had hewn.
