Section 9: VIII - St Matthew ii
- What treasure can we offer to our king
Who, seeming weak, is Lord of everything?
No Tarshish hold
of Ophir gold
Could ever please, for all its glittering. - What worship can we offer to Our Lord
Who gave Himself as the Incarnate Word?
No reverence
Of frankincense
Could ever praise, for all its sweet accord. - What sorrow can we offer for this cor'se
Who gave Himself for us without remorse?
No bitterness
Of Myrrh's caress
Could ever mourn, for all its sad resource.
