Gain and Loss

  1. In the hour of contemplation let us think of loss and gain,
    Of the scourge and desecration of the victim torn with pain
    And relief and jubilation on the day He rose again.
  2. On the day before He perished Jesus blessed the wine and host,
    Yet as he hung lone and lifeless it appeared that all was lost;
    But he rose and, once in Heaven, sent to us The Holy Ghost.
  3. Life defined by love and service is enshrined in sacrament
    From the Jordan's saving waters and the warning to repent
    To Christ's priestly commendation of Himself in Elements.
  4. Thus the misery of Adam was relieved and left behind
    And the Covenant with Moses was exalted and refined
    Through one life in mercy given by the Saviour of mankind.
