Merciful Mother

  1. Merciful Mother my camp fire at dusk,
    Warmth and protection, a circle of home,
    Teach me to share it with all who approach me,
    Welcome the stranger whenever he comes.
  2. Merciful Mother my lantern at night,
    Guard and protect me from all of my fears,
    Some that are real but, worse, those I imagine,
    Pray for my cleansing with penitent tears.
  3. Merciful mother my candle and taper,
    May I be joyful to carry the light,
    You are the means for Your son and My Saviour
    To burn and shine in the depths of the night.
