Advent to Candlemas (Vol. 4)

Only A Woman

Why did my restless sleep
Burst into radiant light?
Why did the voices merge
From gentle promptings into an urge?

The blood's beat changes
From cycle to increase;
And then, one blessed day,
The tensions cease:
O sweet release!

Out of control
My womb becomes a home,
Body and soul
Within me form.

And what began as vision
Becomes a sacred mission:
Not a patriarch nor a priest
But only a woman
Can bear the Christ.
