Down the darkness of the ages
Shines a warm, mysterious light,
Prayed for and foretold by sages,
Scans the Messianic height:
Jesus, God in time and space
Born for us in love and grace.
Infant of an oppressed nation
Humbly born, his suffering
Transforms hope and liberation,
What it means to be a king:
Jesus, born poor and oppressed,
Promise of eternal rest.
Risen, for all the world entreating,
Glorious now in high estate,
Brings us home to him completing
What began at Eden's gate:
Jesus, truly God and man,
Jewel of the Creator's plan.
