Does He Know?
1. A baby is born
By prophets foretold;
A rose from a thorn
Left out in the cold:
Asleep in a manger
Of sweet smelling straw
Does He know of the danger
From Herod in store?
2. He smiles at the Lamb
The shepherds have brought;
Does he think: "I am"
Then banish the thought?
Does the gold draw His hand
To pinch Caesar's grim face
And does He understand
Why He lies in this place?
3. A toddler set down,
His exile is done;
Now in His home town
He contemplates fun:
But as he smells wood
In his father's small shed
Does he know of the blood
From the thorns in His head?
