Advent to Candlemas (Vol. 1)

1. Our Saviour was born on a starlit night
With cattle lowing in the stall,
When the fields were bathed in angelic light
And shepherds heard the heavenly call;
And a baby born of power and might
Was Lord of All.

2. Our Saviour is born on a drizzling day
With soldiers beating down the door
In a slum that is smeared in rust and grey,
Where bailiffs prowl to harass the poor;
And a baby born of beer and clay
Is Lord yet more.

3. And our Saviour born in bruise and break
Has built a bridge of endless span;
Through breaks and bruises, then the cross
He finished what His birth began;
And a baby born for all our sake
Is God made Man.
