General (Vol. 1)

Always

  1. God is always with us
In the terror of the night,
In the twilight of self doubting,
    In the cruelty of light:
    Not a galaxy nor atom
    That eludes His steady care,
    Nothing done without a meaning,
    Nothing worthy of despair.

  2. God is always with us
In the famine with His food,
In the battle and the terror
With the strength of His own blood:
In the x-ray and the scanner,
In the tumour and the knife,
    In the balance of existence,
    In the calculus of life.

  3. God is always with us
    And His immanence divine
Has been grounded in the earthly
    Sacrifice of bread and wine:
    And the Spirit's living presence
    Permeates all barren space
    In the baptism of water,
    In the comradeship of Grace.
