General (Vol. 1)

The Trinity and its Virtues

  1. The golden gate
    Of the Lord's estate
    Admits all who live in faith;
    Whose daily search
    Is within Christs's Church
    Not a quest for a spell or wraith:
    Whose pain of sin
    Is an ache within
    Which only God's love can cure,
    Not the shallow guise
    To apologize
    From a place where we feel secure.

  2. The healing hand
    Of the Son's command
    Exalts all who serve in love;
    Whose quiet deeds
    Meet a host of needs
    Not confined to what most approve:
    Whose discontent
    Is a sacrament
    Which assures but cannot relieve,
    Not a public show
    And the afterglow
    That a servant should not receive.

  3. The rapt embrace
    Of the Spirit's Grace
    Enfolds all who pray in hope;
    Whose clear desire
    For the cleansing fire
    Is their noble and glittering trope:
    Whose prayer transcends
    All personal ends
    In pursuit of that last release
    And whose hope burns bright
    Through the doubting night
    When the morning star brings its peace.

  4. The Blessed Three
    Of the Trinity
    Combine to assist our will;
    The Father leads,
    The Son intercedes
    And the Spirit is never still:
    So with faith's support
    And the hope Christ bought
    And the Spirit's abiding zeal;
    May we love and pray,
    Serve without display
    And at last reach Our Lord's ideal.
