General (Vol. 1)

God's Earth

  1. We have dimmed the stars,
    We have spoiled the stream,
    Magnified the gloom,
    Horrified the dream:
    Yet Your grand creation
    Fills us with dismay;
    Let us save tomorrow
    Through sacrifice today.

  2. We have walked the moon,
    We have scaled the heights,
    Smogged the Summer days,
    Lit the Winter nights:
    Yet Your homely shepherd
    Still protects His sheep;
    Let us love our neighbour
    Through the watch we keep.

  3. We have lit strange fires,
    We have killed the earth,
    Children maimed forever,
    Babies dead at birth:
    Yet Your love protects us
    In our disarray;
    Let us magnify You
    In the words we say.

  4. We have spanned the globe,
    We have shouted loud,
    Filmed the last retreat,
    Armed the madding crowd:
    Yet The Holy Spirit
    Quietly imparts;
    Let us make a channel
    For Her to our hearts.

  5. We have sent the missiles,
    We have learned to clone,
    Tortured those we cherished,
    Tortured the unknown:
    So we need You Father
    And Your loving Son
    With the Holy Spirit
    To (m)end what we have done.
