General (Vol. 1)

Mothers

Part i.

  1. Mother of Jesus, mother of all,
    Pray at our faltering,
    Pray when we fall,
    Smile for our triumphs
    No matter how small,
    Mother of Jesus,
    Mother of all.

  2. Mother of Nazareth,
    Mother of days,
    Pray for our stubborn
    And unthinking ways,
    Pray for our worrying,
    Doubts and delays,
    Mother of Nazareth,
    Mother of days.

  3. Mother of Calvary,
    Mother of pain,
    Pray that we learn
    To see losses as gain,
    Pray that in sorrow
    Our love stays the same,
    Mother of Calvary,
    mother of pain.

  4. Mother of heaven,
    Intercede for the earth,
    By His birth ensure
    That we come to re-birth
    Through His Grace
As the true reckoning of our worth,
    Mother of Heaven,
    Intercede for the earth.

Part ii.

  1. Mother, we thank you for your love
    And your unfailing care,
For calm in spite of troubled times
And for the peace we share:
Thanks for our loved ones and for love
Which leave us with the space
To make our hearts more open
    To the harmony of grace.

  2. Remind us never to assume
    That we are somehow set
Apart from those whose one mistake
    Brings permanent regret:
Help us to see how close we are
    To those we would despise,
Those with worse luck or weaker wills
    But equal in your eyes.

  3. Restrain our quickness to condemn,
    Our urge to judge and deal;
Make us more prompt and generous
    To pacify and heal:
Help us, within our family life,
    To pause, reflect and bow,
More conscious of our weakness then
    Than of our power now.

  4. Mother, when we have done our best
    To value what is given,
Plead that the chasm can be bridged
    Between our hope and heaven:
Teach us to thread the labyrinth
With the lifeline of His Grace,
    Leading us as a family
To the life of His embrace.

Part iii.

  1. For those who fail, whose love is shattered,
Who have forgotten what once mattered,
    Careless, hopeless, homeless scattered,
    Let Your love prevail.

  2. For foes and strangers to Your blessing,
Whose lives are sordid and depressing,
Whose lack of will we find distressing,
    Let Your love prevail.

  3. May every sinner hear You calling,
For broken hearts and souls bring healing,
    Infuse indifferent minds with feeling,
    Let Your love prevail.

  4. May our compassion lead to action,
May we bring unity from faction,
May we put love before attraction,
    Let Your love prevail.

  5. May we give more than we are given,
May we be shepherded, not driven,
    May earthly love foreshadow heaven,
    Let Your love prevail.
