Eucharistic Meditations

Seventeen

  1. There is no greater wonder in the world
    Than the eternal Eucharist,
    No hour it is not offered in Your name
    By broken nail or amethyst:
    No core more vital it must be maintained;
    No promise more sustaining and sustained.
  2. Yet we imprison You in churchly rites
    Seeing homes as different,
    We alternating striving and tristesse,
    You in the Sacrament:
    Yet You re-lived in an Emmaus home
    What You had just completed with the tomb.
  3. Surely the living presence of the Bread
    And the vitality of Wine
    Are sustenance enough for pilgrim waifs
    Intent on the Divine:
    Bearing Your broken body to our door,
    May we receive what You daily restore.
