Eucharistic Meditations

Thirty Seven

(For All Saints)

  1. With swelling hearts
We thank You for your saints,
    Whose faith imparts
    Rebuke to our constraints:
How can our love be worthy, full and true
If we subject it to selfish review?
  2. Though slow and weak
    We must pursue their course
    And learn to speak
    With Grace and gentle force:
Behind the Saints who walk behind Your train
We are yet links in that triumphant chain.
  3. Far from the call
    To grand, heroic deeds
    We still may fall
    Through spurning modest needs:
Your foes grind golden wheels for wealth and fame
But we must mount resistance in Your name.
