Ash Wednesday to Pentecost

The Paschal Candle

  1. The paschal candle searches out
    The corners of the empty cave,
    Its beams eliminate all doubt
    Of victory in the empty grave.
  2. For fifty days the fire extends
    In consecration of the Host,
    More fiercely after He ascends'
    Consuming us at Pentecost.
  3. And it still shines in placid days,
    Made fainter in the Summer sun,
    But we should see its hopeful rays
    As on this night it was begun.
  4. Praise to the Father, source of light,
    And to the Paschal Lamb all praise;
    And to the Spirit on this night
    Who truly has begun to blaze.
