General (Vol. 3)

Child

  1. I love My Sweet Lord with the gifts of a child,
With an untidy prayer and a trust that is wild:
In the innocent gaze and the laughter of youth,
I can skip through the jargon to get at the truth.
  2. I love My Sweet Lord with the trust of a child,
Where the love has no rules and forgiveness is mild,
Where the giving is whole, with no smart quid pro quos
And the taking creates so that giving still grows.
  3. I love My Sweet Lord with the heart of a child,
With an unmeasured strength and address yet unstyled,
With the unquestioned safety of love in return,
And that love comes of giving and not what we earn.
