General (Vol. 2)

Beauty

  1. Transfigured in light, You claim and dispose,
The structure of crystal, the name of a rose,
Unfolding sonatas shot through with surprise,
The glory of suffering, the sparkling of eyes.
  2. Though Satan will probe, corrode and attack,
You give us resilience to stand and fight back:
The seemingly trivial arrangement of flowers
In the ruins of warfare attests to Your powers.
  3. Yet all of these gifts which sustain and refresh
Represent Your perfection in imperfect flesh
But our fervent hope in this world You have given
Is to share Your perfection forever in heaven.
